FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions

How are the Centipede® modules powered?
The power for the Centipede® modules comes from the operator interface and travels through the communication cable. The heater uses a completely independent source of power.

Can I assign a different temperature set-point for each heater in a system?
Yes, since the set-point is saved to an individual Centipede® module, you have the ability to have a different temperature set-point for each heater in a system. For example, you could have the elbow of a heating jacket located next to the flange heating jacket be set 0.10°C higher.

Can I change the set-point after my heating system has been installed?
Yes, the operator interface has the ability to change the set-point, as well as high and low limit alarms at any time. You can even change the entire network of modules at once with the Global Update feature.

Can I use the Centipede® Temperature Control Sytem on my current BriskHeat® heating system?
Yes, however modifications would have to be made to the entire system. The cost would probably negate the gain.

Can I reset the PID autotune function?
Yes, you are able to reset the PID autotune function through the operator interface. It is strongly recommended you do this after you do routine maintenance that requires you to unhook the heater system.

Can I use a Centipede® module without an operator interface?
Yes, technically you could operate a Centipede® module without an operator interface. However, you would not have the ability to continuously monitor your system, other than the LED light on the module. You also would not have the ability to change settings such as temperature set-point. In addition, you would need a power supply for the module, since the operator interface is where the power comes from. We recommend the use of an operator interface with every Centipede® system.

Does the Centipede® system have an external alarm?
The Centipede® operator interface has a dry contact master alarm relay which allows you to hook up an external alarm of your choice.
